Liangzhu Jade Disc

This is a disc carving with animal masks. After a long period of time being underground it has been fossilized to a greyish white texture. Although it looks rugged, it is still very hard. At two ends along the edge, there were two animal faces being carved, resembling the dragon with long mane behind the large forehead. The workmanship appears to be rough, possible by using primitive tools. Yet the work was conducted carefully. Just to work on the reduction of a large portion of jade to bring up the relief, it would have taken a fair bit of efforts.

Circa Liangzhu Culture 3300-2200C.
Diameter 6 cm. 0.65 cm thick.
