Description
This is a small lacquer powder box. The body was built on a mixed layer of clay paddy on fabric body to shape up the structure of the box. Lacquer was then coated on it. The lid is about the same height as the container and enclosed it completely. On top of the lid there is a silver inlaid in the form of a four petal flower. The side is fitted with three silver bands. Unfortunately there is a square hold cut open on the bottom, exposing a layer of shiny but charred material inside with the appearance like tar. It appeared that the previous owners had attempted to separate the lid from the box. Failing to do so a hold was made.
(Appreciation: It resembles an old injured veteran. Time has wipe off its youth glory. However it still can take us through to the past and offers us some clue into the life in Han. The silver work is the pioneer of the popular silver decoration in Tang. )
