Description
Blue glaze vase in the shape of a horse. Its design originated from a kind of travelling water bag made of leather, typically by the grassland herders or travellers along the silk road. They could hold wine or water. The design is a horse, completed with a saddle. During the Silk Road trade and cultural exchange, such theme was popular during the Tang dynasty.
This vase was fired with the Sancai (Tricolour pottery) technic, although only one colour was applied. Therefore, it is also classified as a monochrome ware. The blue glaze material was expensive in those days and valued even by people today.
