Description

This is a cinnabar round box. The illustration on the lid is a harvesting scene. It shows the farmers stacking up the mount of straw rack. This is one of the processes described in a popular scroll known as “Tilling and weaving”. The first of such work can be traced back to an artist during the Song Dynasty, being offered to the royal court. There after similar versions were drawn, as an indication of the care of the king towards the farming and industries in the country.

Besides being elegant, this round shape of box is design in the way that it must be held steady with two hands, no matter how small it is. It is a way of showing respect not only to the box, its contents, but more to family. This one belongs to the smaller type.
